Protecting Tenants: Under Alvin’s leadership, the District Attorney’s Office will have a dedicated unit that will focus on investigating and prosecuting deceptive and abusive practices by landlords, including NYCHA. Alvin directed these types of cases at the Attorney General’s Office, including a groundbreaking case against one of the City’s worst landlords. These cases are essential components to securing affordable housing in Manhattan.
Protecting Workers: The District Attorney’s Office will have a unit dedicated to investigating wage theft and worker safety issues. The unit will modeled after one Alvin oversaw at the Attorney General’s Office, which was a nationwide leader in labor law enforcement. Employers who pay unlawfully low wages to their workers victimize their workers and undermine employers who follow the law. Those who do not follow worker protection laws risk the safety of their employees.
