Immigrants are key to the economic and cultural success of Manhattan. We will and must protect immigrant New Yorkers, especially given the anti-immigrant policies of the federal government.
As the Chief Deputy at the New York Attorney General’s Office, Alvin oversaw litigation challenging the federal government’s anti-immigrant policies, including the federal government’s attempts to end DACA, impose a travel ban on Muslims, and include a citizenship question on the census.
As District Attorney, Alvin will stand up for Manhattan’s immigrant communities.
Fraudulent immigration services: The District Attorney’s Office will vigorously investigate those who make false promises of being able to secure citizenship or permanent residency status and cheat immigrants out of their hard-earned money.
Hate crimes: Hate crimes against immigrant New Yorkers – and all New Yorkers – will not be tolerated. The irresponsible rhetoric in Washington has led to a rise in hate crimes that must be addressed by significant local resources.
ICE: The District Attorney’s Office will do everything in its power to safeguard victims, witnesses, and those charged with crimes from targeting by ICE, in the courthouse or elsewhere.
Immigration consequences: The District Attorney’s Office will be mindful of the consequences of an arrest and criminal conviction on immigration status. Alvin will hire experts in immigration law to help the District Attorney’s Office minimize the effects of immigration consequences.
